Professional
Casey has always loved working with numbers, but his true passion is serving people. He loves the opportunity to help others achieve goals that matter to them, whether that’s minimizing their tax burden, saving for college, or something like selling a business and starting a new chapter in life. Whatever a client’s mission is, seeing their joy and satisfaction when they finally reach their goal—to Casey, it never gets old.
He works with people in all stages of life, and he enjoys guiding clients through the entire lifecycle of their financial plan. He has worked with people who saved for years for their child’s college education, and he has had the privilege of working with that same child as they start their own savings plan. It is this kind of long-term commitment that Casey brings to every partnership; his goal is to be the person his clients trust with all their financial questions, and he aims to provide multi-generational support that they rely on for years to come.
Part of what makes Casey’s client partnerships so strong is his ability to communicate and educate effectively. He takes time to ensure he understands his clients’ needs before offering any recommendations, and when it’s time to talk strategy, he has a knack for simplifying the complex. He loves guiding clients to their “lightbulb moment” when everything clicks and they understand their options clearly. In doing so, he empowers them to engage in the planning process and feel confident about their decisions.
History & Education
Casey attended the University of Nebraska, where he majored in finance. Originally planning to become an accountant, it wasn’t until his Personal Finance 101 class that he discovered a way to connect the quantitative side of finance with the qualitative. From that time, he decided he would pursue a career where he could help people while using his skills with numbers. In 2007, he took an internship at New York Life, where he learned more about the value of life insurance. From there, he spent four years at USAA, gaining experience in property and casualty insurance, umbrella insurance, and eventually investments and wealth management. This was when he began the process of helping clients truly understand their financial situations, and he knew he was on the right track.
In 2012, Casey met Michael Rahn, who became his mentor. Casey spent 12 years as a financial consultant, earning his CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ designation in 2014. When he later learned about the fee-based model at The Sum, he was excited about the prospect of serving clients on a deeper, more personal level. Recognizing this flat-fee model as an industry disruptor and the future of financial planning, Casey joined Michael and his team in 2024.
Personal Life
Casey lives in The Woodlands with his wife Jenna, an emergency room RN (aka his better half), and their three children, Carson, McKenna, and Raegann. Their family is a very active one, and many of their evenings and weekends are spent at baseball practice, tumbling, and tennis lessons—and Casey wouldn’t have it any other way. When they do have free time, they enjoy travelling together, and Casey likes to golf, hunt, or hang out by the pool grilling.
